Volkswagen MY16 changes Polo, Golf, GTI, Golf Wagon, Beetle, Passat, Jetta and Tiguan (Australia)

Volkswagen Australia have announced a wide range of upgrades to its model line-up with the arrival of MY16 vehicles in the coming weeks. These significant upgrades across all major models represents the biggest model year update in the local company’s history, and reaffirms Volkswagen’s commitment to offering exceptional quality and value to its customers.

Volkswagen Group Australia Managing Director, John White, welcomed the arrival of the new MY16 range: “Volkswagen has always stood for quality, innovation and value, and never has this been more true in the company’s history in Australia than with the arrival of our new model year vehicles,” White said. “It’s great to be able to offer our customers the best of German engineering, and in the coming weeks and months, our customers will be able to get even more bang for their bucks,” White continued.

The MY16 model range will begin to arrive in Volkswagen dealerships across the country in the coming weeks, with models available to order immediately.

Enabling static cornering lights in the Volkswagen Golf Mark VI with factory fitted fog lights

Enabling static cornering lights in the Volkswagen Golf Mark VI (Mark V is covered here) only requires a few changes via Vagcom/VCDS.

The cornering function works when your headlights are activated (either manually or via the RLS) under the following conditions

  • The indicator is activated either by holding it down or clicking it into position (not when comfort indicating)
  • The car is in P, N, D, S or Manual (not when in reverse)
  • The steering wheel is turned 85° from the straight ahead position.
  • The speed is under 50kph (once the car drops below this speed the light will activate and once it goes above this speed the light will fade off)

The fog light on the side of the car that the wheel is turned towards will light up, depending on the speed of the steering wheel the light will either fade in slowly or turn on instantly but the light will always fade out slowly.

You will need a 30 Byte Central Electronics Convenience Module (CECM) which are fitted to MY08’s models onwards.

Open Controller 9 and select Coding – 07

volkswagen_golf_mark_vi_enabling_cornering_lights_01

Click the Long Coding Helper, do not copy down the coding seen as these are specific to each car and it’s options/setup.

volkswagen_golf_mark_vi_enabling_cornering_lights_02

Select Byte 14 and bit 7 – cornering lights via front fogs active.

volkswagen_golf_mark_vi_enabling_cornering_lights_03

Select Byte 17 and bit 0 – adaptive light/cornering light variant (0=cornering light/1=adaptive light) and bit 4 – assistance driving light (auto mode)

volkswagen_golf_mark_vi_enabling_cornering_lights_04

Select “Do It!” to save the coding.

volkswagen_golf_mark_vi_enabling_cornering_lights_05

If the code is accepted select “OK”

volkswagen_golf_mark_vi_enabling_cornering_lights_06

Close the controller to finish.

volkswagen_golf_mark_vi_enabling_cornering_lights_07

To test the cornering light function turn the headlights on and turn the wheel left or right, the engine doesn’t have to be turned on.

Volkswagen RNS 510 Maps POI – New features with firmware 3xxx

Firmware version 3xxx and upwards on the RNS 510 introduces a new POI system that uses a z-value instead of latitude and longitude.

The map DVD requires a EDB folder for the POI function to work, the older map DVDs will work however the POI function will not operate. The file contains a file called poi.db3 which is the database for the POIs in a SQLlite format.   These maps have the new POI database European: 7.1 (7400 and 7404) – out now Australia: 4.0 – due out late 2011

A conversion tool for going to and from z-value to latitude and longitude can be found on the POInspector website here, also on the same site is the tool POInspector used to create your own POI.
