    when does the MY07 come?

      • golf v r32

        could somewone help me??
ik have golf5 r32 2007 with rcd 500, steeringwheel buttons, Phone connection (bleutooth), shark antenne (without the long cable antenne that sticks out)…

now my question: (i want to replace my rcd 500 with a rns 510 R version)

i heard from somebody that if i had the Original shark antenne (without the cable/stick that sticks out of the shark antenne)
that i don’t have to buy a gps reciever from FAKRA (because my shark antenne had already the GPS reciever)
        is that thrue???

If you car didn’t have a factory fitted navigation head unit it won’t have a GPS aerial on the roof. Some dealers did downgrade cars from the navigation to the radio units which left the GPS aerial intact so there is a small chance it might be fitted.
You have a few options, fit a on glass DAB aerial, fit a roof mounted one (I’ve completed this so the guide will be coming soon) or fit a magnetic GPS aerial behind the headunit.
There are multiple types of sharkfin aerial, some with GPS and some without.

thank you for the reply. i hope that i have the gps shark antenne…
is it difficult to install the shark antenne on the roof? how much time does it take?

          • Maverick

I was doing some other work at the same time and taking photos etc so it’s hard to say but with basic tools and taking your time I would say around 4-5 hours for the first time and 2-3 hours for subsequent installs. It’s not difficult just a lot of trim to remove and fitting the new sharkfin takes some patience to get it straight and to tighten up which has to be done by feel.

i think i have the shark antenne with gps connection because i have the Phone function…
i don’t think that vw made a shark antenne with only Phone function or could i be wrong?

i also have an other question…
i have a golf 5 r32 with rcd 500, Phone connection, buttons on steering wheel,…
            i want to replace my RCD 500 with a RNS 510 R version…
is it better to upgrade my canbus/gateway or buy a new one?

          • golf v r32

It depends on the phone function that you’re talking about. Most of the car kits didn’t use an external aerial and VAG produce a number of shark fin aerials with a mix of types from remote start, GSM, Satellite, GPS, AM/FM, FM and a few others. The only way to know for sure is to drop the rear of the roof lining and take a look. I’ll be producing a guide in the next few weeks and posting it here on how to do this.

The CAN Bus gateway is cheap, best to replace it. You need other coding done when fitting a RNS 510 and you can get this done at the same time.
