Fixes

SWL Recovery CD

During the firmware upgrade if a Gateway Error 202 or other failure occurs and the unit will not book this recovery CD will recover the SWL and allow the unit to boot. Based on 398x firmware and will recover a RNS 510 running any firmware and for any market. Simply insert the CD and reboot the RNS 510 to start the process.

Further information can be found in this post - Volkswagen RNS 510 SWL Recovery CD for Gateway Error 202 or Boot Problems

CAN Bus fix for old gateways
(power drain issues)

Early build Volkswagen cars can experience a power drain issue after upgrading to a RNS 510 running firmware 2660 or above, this fix can avoid having to upgrade the CAN Bus gateway below.

Further information can be found in this post - Upgrading 2nd generation radios (RCD 300, RCD 500) to 3rd generation (RCD 210, RCD 310, RNS 310, RCD 510) power drain issue

Format CD – HDD and Maps

This will format both partitions on HDD and all MP3 files and maps will be lost. Run it only if you have problems accessing audio files after software upgrade or you do want to install an older version Navi map. If you want to erase maps only and keep existing MP3 files, then edit the file WA\FORMHDB1.WSH and replace first symbol in line “hdTermFormat(“/hdb1″,3)” with #
In some rare cases the MP3 partition can not be formatted with this CD, if this happens downgrade to software 1200 (it will also format HDD) and then upgrade back to your current version.

Volkswagen RNS 510 radio navigation system

Experience with all the senses
The latest-generation navigation systems are outstanding for their simple operation and multi-functionality. The Volkswagen RNS 510 radio navigation system sets new standards in these areas, combining navigation and multimedia entertainment in a most innovative way. This makes it a real experience for all the senses. Why not find out for yourself?

That feels good
Progress that you can touch: for the first time ever, there is a Volkswagen navigation system that you can operate conveniently by means of a touchscreen. All you have to do is choose – do you want to see the map in 2D, topographically, or would you prefer a three-dimensional bird’s-eye view? The large TFT colour display always ensures excellent map reproduction. The intelligent split screen function divides the screen into map and additional information for greater clarity. Dynamic navigation with TMC helps you arrive at your destination more quickly.

And it looks good too
The RNS 510 is certainly worth a closer look: its high-quality DVD drive provides entertaining movie enjoyment with excellent picture quality – thanks to a high-resolution TFT monitor. A sophisticated sound system with eight speakers provides added listening enjoyment, no matter whether you prefer to listen to the radio or a CD. The integrated 30 GB hard disk offers space for your music collection – and, of course, for the navigation data. And the SD memory card system ensures a convenient exchange of data whenever you need it.

Does it leave you wanting more?
If you add a TV hybrid tuner (DVB-T) to the new RNS 510, then you can even watch television. The integrated videotext will help you stay abreast of the latest news. In the interests of your safety, these functions are, of course, only available when the vehicle is stationary. Making phone calls on the move will become even safer and more convenient in future. With the optional Bluetooth mobile phone preparation “Premium”, you can use the Phone button and touchscreen to access the telephone menu directly, scroll through the phone book and even enter numbers on the display.

All D and later versions.

1T0 035 680 C (1T0035680 C) from software version 1000, 800, 900, 1100 , 2660 and 2700 to version 3810.

Revision B and C units can be upgraded however there may be issues (A units may be upgraded but not recommended).

Revision B and C revision units

These units will become SW revision D after the upgrade however when coding the unit using VCDS you will receive the error
“Coding Rejected, Error 31: Request Out of Range”
Before saving the new coding manually add a 10th byte (00) at the end before pressing “Do It” as per the example below

9 byte coding (B/C SW revisions):
020104000400001100

10 byte coding (D SW revision):
02010400040000110000

Downloading

Download the files and extract them using winrar and you will have a NRG format ISO file to burn. Using Nero burn a DVD+RW or DVD-R (CDR works as well) at a slow speed (4 x is ok for DVD and 16 x for CD). Make sure you use quality media and keep the burn speed down as low as you can to ensure there are no problems during the installation process. Also note that you may need to edit a file before you burn it (see below) if you want to access the setup menu without Vagcom/VCDS.

Warning! This upgrade will not create the new partitions required for the new POI system if you upgrade from 1xxx/2xxx. Upgrading from 3800-3910 is required so the new partitions are created.

Warning! 7L6 Touareg RNS 510′s are no longer supported since version 3870 due to the Touareg being fitted with the RNS 850. Version 1200 was the last version factory loaded on the 7L6 units with a hardware revision B.

Warning! There is a remote chance of you ‘bricking’ the unit, this is a fraction of a percent but it could happen! The process takes around 60 minutes.’

Warning! There are a small number of users where the RNS 510 does not know where it is after it’s been powered on, details of the previous location are kept in the unit but at this stage there is no pattern to this problem.

Warning! There are a small number of users where the RNS 510 display has a dim backlight after upgrading. See the post “Volkswagen RNS 510 Backlight Dim after upgrading Firmware” for more details.

Warning! Users with cars MY07 and earlier may experience power drain issues after the upgrade. See the post “Upgrading 2nd generation radios (RCD 300, RCD 500) to 3rd generation (RCD 210, RCD 310, RNS 310, RCD 510) power drain issue” for more details.

Warning! Users with the Skoda UHV bluetooth 1Z0 035 729 B (1Z0035729B) may want to delay upgrading the firmware, there is an issue with the RNS 510 no longer displaying the phone book and/or the call details but signal strength etc are visible for some phones. My HTC Diamond for example worked fine before the update but only partially afterwards however my Iphone 3G worked fine before and after. This is not a problem with the 1Z0 035 729 D (1Z0035729D) Skoda UHV bluetooth kit. The MFD functions as per normal with phone book and last calls listed correctly. Android 2.1 phones work fine with the update.

Note! - Test/Setup Mode. The firmware can allow access to enter test/setup mode without Vagcom/VCDS access see Accessing the Setup Menu on the RNS 510 head units with firmware later than 1100. The procedure for entering the test/setup mode for those with Vagcom/VCDS is slightly different as well. To enter the test/setup mode when the RNS 510 is operating press and hold the setup button, keep holding it when the radio menu appears and shortly after the test menu appears . I had to reboot my unit after coding it but it may be possible a power cycle is enough.

Note! - Failure (Gateway Error 202) - You can downgrade back to 1100 by inserting the 1100 firmware and rebooting the RNS 510 (Setup + eject + info).

Steps to load firmware

Unlock and/or open the car

Do not start the car and do not insert the key in the ignition

Turn the RNS 510 on and insert the firmware CD/DVD into the drive

Download Firmware Upgrade

Download Location

File 1: https://rapidshare.com/files/326321839/FW4020.rar

This is used if the unit is stuck with Gateway Error 202 or similar and is unable to boot after the upgrade. It’s based on the 272x firmware but can be used to recover RNS 510′s running any version. Insert the media into the RNS 510 and start a new SWL process by pressing Setup + Eject +Info/Mic (top right hand button next to the DVD slot). It will attempt to restore a new SWL process and will enable it to boot up. (Thanks again to Josi)

Precise and powerful lines from front to rear of the vehicle combine to create a sporty and dominant compact SUV.

The Tiguan model range is now bolstered with a completely new and exciting proposition – the entry model now heads the line up with the much awarded, responsive yet efficient 1.4 litre 118kW twincharged TSI petrol engine with the inclusion of BlueMotion Technolgy to optimises fuel savings. The engine is mated to the 6 speed manual transmission with power delivery driven through the front wheels. This offers an amazingly affordable and extremely competitive price point model in a fast growing area of the segment without sacrificing equipme125TSI rent or comfort levels. A future front wheel drive DSG model is also in the initial planning stages to further enhance our competitiveness in this sector.

The outgoing 125TSI has been replaced by the improved and upgraded 132TSI with 132kW, 2.0 litre petrol engine delivering exceptional drivability and complimented with impressive fuel efficiency. The diesel model 103TDI has been injected with improvements including BlueMotion Technolgy for added economy.

To complete the range, the 155TSI with DSG combines style, elegance, practicality and heightened specifications as well as added performance from the 2.0 litre 155kW turbocharged engine over its 147KW predecessor.

The below table outlines the model line.

Model Code - Model Description – Drive
5N20QX/12 - Tiguan 118TSI 6 speed manual - Front wheel drive
5N20N2/12 - Tiguan 132TSI 6 speed manual - 4MOTION
5N20N9/12 - Tiguan 132TSI 7 speed DSG - 4MOTION
5N203U/12 - Tiguan 103TDI 6 speed manual - 4MOTION
5N203R/12 - Tiguan 103TDI 7 speed DSG - 4MOTION
5N22M9/12 - Tiguan 155TSI 7 speed DSG - 4MOTION

Equipped as standard across the range is the convenience of Bluetooth connectivity and Media Device Interface (MDI) allowing you to listen to your favourite tracks or make that important call during any drive or commute.

Customers will be offered a simplified but concise factory option list – To highlight some of the key options, the 18” inch New York alloy wheels enforce the sporty stance of the Tiguan and matched with the additional front fog lights complete the essence of style. Improving visibility and visual appearance, is easily gained with Bi-Xenon headlights with LED driving lights. The Adaptive Chassis Control option gives you the choice of three different driving settings to suit your driving demands. Park Assist 2 will be offered for the first time across the Tiguan range and with the incorporation of front and rear parking sensors will assist greatly to reverse or bay park with ease. The interior can be optioned with Vienna leather appointed seats and complimented with the additional Comfort Package to include dual zone climatronic air-conditioning, automatic headlights, rain sensing wipers and interior ambient lighting details. The complete list of options are detailed in the attached new Tiguan Information summary.

Tiguan 132TSI Pacific Special Model

Due to the extraordinary global demand of the Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) a Tiguan Special Model (Tiguan 132TSI Pacific, automatic and manual) will be introduced and substitutes the Tiguan 132TSI DSG and Tiguan 132TSI 6 speed manual. This special model will be orderable from November 2011, (calendar week 45/2011). As a consequence the Tiguan 132TSI DSG and manual variant will not be orderable for production until mid-2012.

The Tiguan 132TSI Pacific special model will be identifiable with Pacific badging at the rear of the vehicle and is available in manual or alternatively as a 6 speed (conventional) Tiptronic automatic gearbox. This special model will include a host of additional features at no additional recommended retail price to the customer. Both the manual and automatic variants include, the Comfort Package, Front Fog Lights, and Park Assist 2. The addition of these key features adds $2,800 worth of value to the customer as well additional sales opportunities. Please see the below special model information:

Tiguan 132TSI Pacific

Model Code - Model Description - Drive
5N20N2P/12 - Tiguan 132TSI Pacific 6 speed manual - 4MOTION
5N20N3P/12 - Tiguan 132TSI Pacific 6 speed Tiptronic automatic - 4MOTION

We believe the new Tiguan is an extremely competitive Compact SUV in its class with compelling, comfort, style, safety and affordability. A detailed summary of specifications, colours and options is available to you in the attached document. Pricing will be announced and dealer pricing distributed at the time of launch, which is currently scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2011.

These vehicles are visible on your code in NADCON. The new Tiguan will shortly be available to order through NADCON Configurator.

Current high levels of demand globally for the new Tiguan are presenting some challenges with production. For this reason to secure the maximum available production quota, we will be prescriptive with the fairshare offer mix until calendar week 21/2012, at which time this will be reviewed.

*We are currently not able to release the Tiguan 132TSI Pacific special models for ordering or the NADCON configurator. Due to this, the Tiguan 132TSI DSG and manual are now available to configure. Please keep this in mind that even though these vehicles are configured as 132TSI DSG & manuals, they will be produced from calendar week 45/2011 or later and will be built as 132TSI Pacific special models with the inclusion of additional features and the automatic gearbox.

Detailed specification, technical and pricing information will be available closer to launch.

Changes common to all models

1. Change in background colour for RCD210 and RCD310. The display colour for the RCD systems
is upgraded to match the instrument cluster.

Changes common to Caddy GP series

1. Engine compartment painting in body colour

Progressively from week 34 2011 the engine compartment in all Caddy models will no longer be painted
in body colour.

2. Change in function name with Climatronic air-conditioning system

The function DUAL has been renamed SYNC on the climatronic air-conditioning unit.

3. Caddy 4MOTION

As discussed at the launch of the Caddy GP range in 2010 we will add 2 models in the Caddy range incorporating 4MOTION technology. Firstly we will offer the Caddy Maxi TDI320 4MOTION 6 speed DSG Van and secondly we will offer the Caddy Maxi Life TDI320 4MOTION 6 speed DSG.

Both vehicles will have the same specification and ground clearance as their equivalent TDI320 Model with the addition of the multifunction display (9Q5) as a standard item. Production of these models will be limited in volume for quarter 3 2011 and will increase over time depending on demand from the network.

The Caddy 4MOTION allows customers the benefits of all-wheel drive technology in a similar way to the Transporter and Multivan 4MOTION variants. New model specification sheets and pricing will be advised soon.

Changes common to T5 GP series

1. Completion of naming convention change

As introduced on Caddy and Amarok, the naming convention for Commercial Vehicle models will now reflect our strong torque which suits perfectly the operating conditions for Commercial Vehicles. As such engine variants will be expressed as TDI400 – being engine type, followed by peak torque output.
This change affects all T5 models. For example, Transporter 103TDI becomes TDI340.

2. Lower position of badges on rear of all models

This change brings the badge position into line with Amarok and Caddy GP models – for all T5 GP models.

3. Trailer Preparation

All T5 models will now be standard with Trailer Wiring Preparation, similar to Amarok. This is a fantastic change, cutting fitting time substantially for the Accessories towbar and wiring kit. This change should give you confidence to promote the excellent 2-tonne towing capacity for all T5 models. The
fitment of the trailer preparation also brings Trailer Stabilisation as part of the ESP for T5 models.

4. SAFE Locking

A change has been made to show a warning for the SAFE locking (dead lock mechanism). This warning will now appear on the display of the instrument cluster when the key is removed for T5 models warning that the vehicle will be deadlocked when locked (unable to be open from the inside).

Translated, the warning says “Please consider the Safe Locking system, more information in the owner’s manual”.

5. DSG Logo on Gearstick

The DSG logo will move from a plaque on the base of the gear shift, to an embossed logo on the gear stick as per the image.

6. Package Code (Z1H) – Bluetooth

The package code Z1H is introduced for all T5 models, covering the options 9ZU and 9Q5. Z1H can only be ordered with ZE7.

Changes specific to Transporter

1. Change in tool kit for Single/Dual Cab Chassis

A revised tool kit is supplied for the Single/Dual Cab Chassis models. The equipment retains the same function.

2. Deletion of 103TDI Transporter Dual Cab Chassis

The model Transporter Dual Cab Chassis 103TDI is deleted.
With this change the entry level chassis model is the Single Cab TDI340 (formerly 103TDI) and the entry Dual Cab Chassis is the TDI400 (formerly 132TDI).

3. Design/location of the tie down points for vehicles fitted with a high partition wall (ZZ3)

Following a change to international regulations affecting the vehicles fitted with a high partition wall, reinforced load securing points are fitted to those vehicles. The position is changed for LWB vehicles. This only affects vehicles ordered with (ZZ3).

4. Park Distance Control (front and rear) now available without Body Coloured Bumpers

The PR codes 7X2 (front and rear parking sensors) and 7X8 (front and rear parking sensors with Rear View Camera) no longer force body coloured bumpers. This has the additional benefit of no longer restricting colour choice when optioning front and rear parking sensors for Transporter.

5. Package Code change for Side Assist (Z1Z changes to P1Z)

The package code has changed, all functionality for SWB Transporter with Side Assist remains as before.
This change is only for Transporter, Multivan retains the Z1Z code for Side Assist. There is also a reduced price for this option (both P1Z and Z1Z).

6. Confirmation that High Roof/LWB combination NOT available with 4Motion

7. Replacement of seat option packages with individual options

The package codes for Comfort Seats will change to individual option codes, allowing customers the option to add height adjustment and lumbar support without optioning arm-rests. ZS4 and ZS6 (Driver’s and Driver/Passenger arm rests, height adjust and lumbar support) are now split as below:

Previously part of ZS4 (only available in the combinations below)
3L2+7P6 Height adjustment for driver separate seat in cab and Lumbar support (manually adjustable) for separate seat, in cab, driver (only available as the combination)
3L2+7P6+4S3 As above, plus Armrests for drivers seat in cab

Previously part of ZS6 (only available in the combinations below)
3L3+7P4 Height adjustment for driver and passenger separate seat in cab and Lumbar supports (manually adjustable) for separate seats in cab, driver and passenger
3L3+7P4+4S1 Height adjustment for driver and passenger separate seat in cab and Lumbar supports (manually adjustable) for separate seats in cab, driver and passenger and armrests for both seats in cab

Changes specific to Caravelle

1. Option of Alarm with back-up horn and interior monitoring (ZF5)

This option has now been extended to Caravelle. The Alarm with back-up horn package is the same as for Multivan. In particular this means the Caravelle comes with two remote keys only and no third rigid key.

2. Park Distance Control (front and rear) now available without Body Coloured Bumpers

The PR codes 7X2 (front and rear parking sensors) and 7X8 (front and rear parking sensors with Rear View Camera) no longer force body coloured bumpers. This has the additional benefit of no longer restricting colour choice when optioning front and rear parking sensors for Caravelle.

Changes specific to Multivan

For MY12 there are some exciting changes for Multivan, building on the successful product offering in place. A new engine, refreshed wheel range and detail equipment and trim changes all help to maintain a strong offer in this segment and continue the success in 2011.

1. TSI350 Engine available in Multivan Comfortline and Highline (SOP still to be confirmed, will be from September at least)

During MY12 we will introduce the Multivan TSI350 petrol engine. This engine produces 150kW /350Nm and offers exceptional performance, driveability and economy. The engine has an extremely flat torque curve with strong performance throughout the range. Start of Production has not yet been
confirmed however a separate bulletin will follow with further information.

The TSI350 gives the Multivan strong acceleration, from 0-100km/h in just 8.7 seconds (compared to 10.5 seconds for the previous 3.2 V6). Compared to the 3.2 V6 the new TSI350 is 25.2% better in terms of fuel consumption and 26.7% better in terms of Co2 output (international figures).

The TSI350 model will be specified like the MY11 132TDI (now known as the TDI400).

2. Bi-Xenon Headlights (PXR)

Bi-Xenon headlights are now available as a stylish and functional option for Multivan Comfortline and Highline. Both high and low beam are
operated by the Bi-Xenon lights and Daytime Running Lights are a distinctive LED design. Headlight washers are included.

3. Dash Trim Upgrade

Adding to the comfort and appearance of Comfortline and Highline models, a new dash trim is now standard. The new trim incorporates stainless-steel look for air-vents and centre stack, as well as a chrome embellishment on gear lever and headlight switch. New mats in the dash storage pockets
complete the upgrade.

As per the change for all T5 models, the gear lever is embellished with the DSG insignia, rather than the base of the gearshift previously.

4. iPhone, iPod integration standard for Multivan (9WE)

Multivan will continue to come standard with the MDI system with RCD310 (CL) or RNS510 (HL). MDI will now be standard with iPhone/iPod interface. Interfaces to suit USB or other systems available via accessories. This change suits the family and leisure orientation of Multivan. Note that 9WE will appear
on the configurator for Multivan Comfortline as a ‘No Cost Option’.

5. New ‘Cascavel’ 17” alloy wheel for Multivan

This distinctive new alloy wheel is standard for Multivan Comfortline TDI400 (previously the 132TDI) and TSI350. It is available as a factory
option for Multivan Comfortline TDI340 (Previously 103TDI).

This wheel replaces the Neva 17” alloy wheel, no longer available.

6. Multifunction Steering Wheel (ZE6)

The Multifunction steering wheel (ZE6) with audio control is now standard in the Multivan Comfortline.
The Multifunction wheel (ZE7) with Bluetooth controls will continue to be available as an option. The wheel (ZE7) forces Bluetooth preparation package (Z1H).

Changes specific to Amarok

After great feedback from the media and public, there are only detail changes for the Amarok range. There is also the addition of the “Chassis” models for MY12, offering increased opportunity in the rural and heavy duty markets.

1. Multifunction Steering Wheel (ZA9 / PA9)

Multifunction steering wheel will now come standard on Highline and Ultimate models and will be an option on Amarok and Amarok Trendline.
The ZA9 wheel offers remote control for audio functions. Further information related to phone controls will follow.

2. Heated Seats for Ultimate

Heated seats will become standard for Ultimate. The switches are located on the centre console (above the buttons on the left and right side of the
gear shift). Note that the image shows the 4×4 adjustment on the left hand side, this remains on the right hand side for Australia.

3. Day Time Running Lights (from week 8/MY11 production)

This change has taken place early, forced from week 8/MY11 for all Australian production vehicles. Day Time Running lights operate in a similar way to the other models in the range with the benefit of increased visibility and safety.

4. Amarok Dual Cab Chassis (ZFA) / Trendline Dual Cab Chassis (ZFB)

Opening up a new opportunity for Amarok especially for rural and heavy duty use, MY12 sees the introduction of the chassis model Amarok – in both entry and Trendline.

For obvious reasons chassis models arrive without any rear badging (normally mounted to the tray) and there is no longer a rear 12V socket in the tray area. Mudflaps are also not fitted to the rear, but will instead be transported with the vehicle awaiting fitment with the tray.

Like the Transporter chassis models, the vehicle cannot be registered as delivered, the additional body (including rear tail lights, number plate lights and fuel-filler mounting) must be added prior to registration and by dealership/customer arrangement.

The comfort suspension is not available with Dual Cab Chassis models.

5. Amarok Ultimate: Change to decorative seam for armrest

The decorative seam is deleted for MY12 vehicles.

Units that can be upgraded include (still being compiled may not be 100%)

1T0 035 680 C (1T0035680 C) from software version 1000, 800, 900, 1100 and 2660 to version 2700.

7L6 035 680 C (7L6035680C) from software version 1002, 1022, 1102 and 2664 to version 2700.

3T0 035 680 A (3T0035680A) to version 2704.

7F0 035 680 (7F0035680) to version 2700.

7E0 035 680 (7E0035680) to version 2700.

Further to follow as the firmware is loaded.

Warning! This upgrade WILL delete your music and/or maps if you have a firmware version PRIOR to version 1100/1102. Units with a firmware version of 1100/1102 will not have music and maps deleted.

Warning! 7L6 Touareg RNS 510′s are no longer supported since version 2760 due to the Touareg being fitted with the RNS 850.

Download Unofficial SWL recovery CD

This is used if the unit is stuck with Gateway Error 202 or similar and is unable to boot after the upgrade. It’s based on the 272x firmware but can be used to recover RNS 510′s running any version. Insert the media into the RNS 510 and start a new SWL process by pressing Setup + Eject +Info/Mic (top right hand button next to the DVD slot). It will attempt to restore a new SWL process and will enable it to boot up. (Thanks again to Josi)
