*1 Units with firmware from 2660 upwards now have 32GB + SDHC support including older units (from HW04 and above type A units).
Units with firmware prior to 2660 or with a older hardware revision have a 2GB limitation.
Some 4GB SD cards (not SDHC) will work. 2GB is the maximum size allowed by the specification of SD however there are some 4GB cards available. One that has been tested to work when formatted as a FAT32 card is the Transcend 4GB Secure Digital Memory Card Class 6 (TS4GSDHC6)

*3 Factory option only for Mark 6. The sound system developed for the Golf by Volkswagen and the Scandinavian hi-fi specialist Dynaudio can be paired with any of the 300 or 500 series units. The Dynaudio sound system offers pure high-tech sound: the four 168 millimeter woofers – made of a magnesium-silicate membrane, a very light 74 millimeter voice coil and an internal magnet design in a stiff plastic basket – provide for precise and powerful bass with high pulse fidelity in the doors and in the rear side panels. The 50 millimeter and 60 millimeter tweeters in the door and side trim supplement this sound with exceptionally clear transparency and complex sound impressions.
The loudspeaker system is supplied by a newly developed, digital 300 Watt amplifier; it consists of eight Class AB output amplifiers. The capabilities offered by the digital sound processor (DSP) for so-called propagation time correction (goal: to make a correction so that sound waves from all loudspeakers reach listeners’ ears simultaneously, regardless of their locations in the vehicle) and frequency equalization guarantee a sound experience of the highest level.

* 6 Unit has AV input on rear however this is not fitted to all head units.

I notice that the RNS-510 pin out above is a bit different to others I have seen.
The pin out named “N.C.” (below the earth symbol and to the right of “+UB”) is named “AMP”.
I was hoping to buy an RNS-510 (to replace my RNS2) and use the “AMP” pin out as the remote wire to turn on my aftermarket AMP. At the moment on my RNS2, I am using what is known as the “Radio On” pin to function as a remote wire to my AMP. Works great. But will this work on the RNS-510?
I believe that you need some kind of CANBUS on/off for the AMP with the RNS 510 or you can connect it so that it turns on and off with the ignition.
Whoops, I just noticed that the caption under the photo of the pin out above states that it is the pin outs for an RCD-510. Sorry I thought it was for an RNS-510. I have a photo of the pin outs for a RNS-510. It definitely has the word “AMP” at the same location above where the RCD-510 has “N.C.”. So there is still hope for my theory that this can be used as the remote on signal for my amp. I would not be happy with having to have the ignition “on” to have my amp turned on. I regularly listen to my sound system without the keys in the ignition. At the moment (with my RNS2) the radio powers up in the background by just by opening any door (or boot lid) to my Jetta. The “Radio On” signal then turns on the the amp. I had to add a 2 second “delay on” relay to this circuit as the amp picked up some sort of electrical activity (causing a pop sound) about 1.5 seconds after the doors opened.

Have any of you guys successfully upgraded from a December 2004 MK5 Comfortline RCD 300mp3 to an RCD 510 without having the problem of the car battery being drained flat.
If so would you be able to tell me what was done to overcome this.

The RCD 210 is not MP3 compatible
The rcd210 IS Mp” compatible, i have one in my Golf6 and it works.
Is anyone familiar with the 2010 Passat CC and the type of adapter (and VW part number) that is required for an iPod adapter? My radio is the Premium 8 radio, which looks just like the RCD-510. One site says to use part # 1K0-051-510A but the instructions say to hook it up via the satellite receiver in the trunk or under the drivers seat. I looked in both places and there is no receiver there. I am wondering if all I need is a cable that might connect to the back of the radio head unit.
may i know whether do u have the above with wire harness?

Hi can somebody tell me what is the difference between an ordinary RCD 310 and an RCD 310 Sound with 10 speaker and with 250W output ?! Is any body seen such instalation. How is the speaker setup considering that there is 10 speaker in the car ?! 6 in front (LOW MID HIGH) 4 at rear (LOW HIGH).
I planing to order the RCD 310 Sound into my Touran but I would like to know a bit more about this.

My RCD-510 has a yellow AV input 26-way plug on the back for reverse camera input, does anyone know if the cable that goes into the back of the RNS-510 for the reverse camera input is the same for the AV input on the RCD-510 ?

Sounds like it’s most likely one of the Chinese knockoffs like the Waywell W6050.
If it has 2 SD card slots it is not OEM unit, more like Maverick Specified.

Just installed a used set from Europe – Version B onto a Mark6 GTI. The side buttons seems to be “Green” compared to the normal “Red” when lights were switched on.
Any reason why this is so ? Is it possible that the previous owner have changed the bulbs/led inside to “green” ? The set seems “untampered” since the seals are still intact.
Appreciate any advice given.

I have Skoda Superb 2 with RNS310/Admunsen.
Dont buy-it. You get no maps, and you have to buy 1 cd for every country. Admunsen is 450 E, each CD is 230 E. With the money for admunsen+ 10 maps you can get Columbus with tv tuner and all europe .
Can someone tell me whether the RCD310 or RCD510 have a better radio reception then the RCD210. I cant seem to pick up many radio stations on my RCD210

Ik ben in het bezit gekomen van een RCD210. Deze is gedemonteerd uit een nieuwe Polo 2010. Nu wil ik deze inbouwen in een Golf VI van 2009 maar de antenne aansluiting komt niet overeen. Op de achterzijde van de radio bevindt zich 1 fakra aansluiting met twee ribben en een vierkant blokje. Mijn autoantenne aansluiting heeft een tweeling fakra aansluiting, 1 zijde met twee ribben en de andere heeft een uitsparing voor een blokje.
Wie weet een oplossing om de radioantenne op de radio aan te sluiten. Heb bij de VW garage gevraagd doch daar kan mij niet verder helpen.

I would like to find out if the D/DIN unit for the vw cc (2010) is compatible with the park assist and optical parking system or will you lose some funtionality if the original RCD-510 VW sound system is replaced with the RNS-510 System. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

What is the difference between the LCD and LED screen on the later RNS510 ?
It’s just the type of backlight, the screen is the same.
LCD = LCD with CFL backlight
LED = LCD with LED backlight
Which media players (other than ipods and iphones) are supported by the MDI interface using a mini USB connection to the RCD510.
Most of my media collection is in WMA format. I’d like to but a media player that simply uses the existing WMA music and works well with the MDI interface.
Never mind – I answered my own question with further Google searching. A USB hard drive looks like the best option.

Now I understand it has the plugin to get full controll on screen (whihc is great) but the option to use bluetooth is more appealing (on short journeys) any info would be geat as its excellent on the new fiesta

I’ve just bought a new VW Passat Highline Plus with RNS510. The dealer tells me that this is not Bluetooth compatibel and I therefore can’t show my telephone contacts on the RNS510 screen and the only thing the PHONE button does is switch the radio off if it is on…..
I am hugely frustrated by this. My partner has a new mini and she ws able to mate her phone with her dashboard screen and fully use the screen to make and receive calls while looking at her SMS messages and contacts lits etc. If MINI can do it, why can’t VW?
The Passat comes with a small (smaller than my mobile phone) adaptor which is bolted to the dashboard and which has a tiny screen on it. This can be mated to your phone via Bluetooth and used to receive and make calls while you are driving. However, the screen is so small and the menu systems so unfriendly that it is dangerous to even think about using it to search your contacts while driving. Have I been sold a pup or am I missing something?
Just to complete this miserable tale, the small digital screen in front of the driver, between the rev counter and speedometer displays the speed in kilometres per hour. The dealer (an allegedly proper VW dealer) doesn’t know how to chaneg it to MPH and the manual is useless.
I’ve had the car for two months and I’m already thinking of selling it.

The car is bluetooth compatible both with rsap kits like your partners mini or standard bluetooth both of which fully integrate. The integration you can see on the bluetooth page is what you can achieve.
The small digital speed display is called “alternative speed display” for a reason. This is detailed in your manual.
It depends on the year of construction of your vehicle whether the radio is equipped with CD or MP3 CD drive:
From 2006 until 2008 the RCD210 has been equipped with a CD drive in the vehicles VW Tiguan, Golf V, Jetta, Touran and Caddy.
Since 2008 the radio is being integrated into the vehicles VW Tiguan, Jetta, Caddy and Touran with a MP3 CD drive. Since 2009 the radio is also in serial production for Golf VI, Polo V and T5 with MP3 CD drive.
Just been told by dealer that Dynaudio no longer available with RNS models on the Passat CC

I have a MK 6 Comfortline factory fitted with the RNS 510 system.
My unit seems to fade and loose all volume with no sound while it is operating. This happens at random.Is this able to be fixed.
It occours with the Radio, MDI od SD Card operating.
Extremely annoying after paying for all the VW accessories that I had fitted.
