The transport protection device must be activated before transporting an RCD 510 unit, and the device in a new unit must be deactivated when installing it. This is performed electronically using the keypad of the unit. When the transport protection device has been activated, the player of the CD changer is brought to a “transport position”.
Activating transport protection device:
Unit status: “ON”, cable connections must be connected to the RCD 510.
– Press and hold keys identified with -arrows- simultaneously for at least 5 seconds.
The following appears on the radio display: “CDC transport protection activated”.
Transport protection is now activated.
Deactivating transport protection device:
Unit status: “ON”, cable connections must be connected to the RCD 510.

A button with the word “Deactivate” is located under it.

You have to contact your dealer with the serial number of the headunit, they may require more information to give you the pin number.
Look for the code in the trunk by the spare tyre there is always a sticker
I have replaced the RCD-510 in my 2010 Jetta with a RNS-510 but I could not get the transport lock or menu to lock or unlock to come up before I pulled it out. Is there a possibly something that is disabled thru VCDS? The RCD out of my car is made by Delphi, if that makes a difference. Any help would be great.

Hi, as i sold my RCD510 i activated the transportation lock. The new owner installed the RCD510 to his Golf and pressed the 3 keys and then pressed “deactivate” but there does not anything work in the unit. what can he do else?

Hi, i’m hoping someone can help! I’ve just bought a second hand rcd510, & replaced my rcd300 in my 2008 golf mkv.
It all seemed to go well, the rcd510 powered up and everything seemed to work, except when i tried the cd player. Whenever I tried to load a cd it says please wait but nothing happens and it eventually goes back to tthe original screen.
I’ve read the thread here about the transportation lock, and I’ve tried this, but mine doesn’t seem to work quite as it’s described here.
My activation screen comes up straight away I don’t have to wait 5 seconds when i press the 3 buttons, & i’ve pressed the ‘deactivate’ button, but nothing change. The cd changer still won’t load, but the next time I pressed the 3 buttons I got the ‘deactivate screen straight away – which surprised me because that implies the lock was still activated??
Can anyone tell me another way to reset or factory reset, or to tturn off the transport lock?
Or any other ideas on how to get the cd player working?
