Firmware versions 2660 / 2662 / 2664 / 2666 / 2668 access to the Setup/Test Menu.
Option 1 – Vagcom/VCDS access
Using Vagcom/VCDS open Channel 37 – Navigation, go into adaption and change channel 50 to 1 (will be 0).
To enter the test/setup mode when the RNS 510 is operating press and hold the setup button, keep holding it when the radio menu appears and shortly after the test menu appears . I had to reboot my unit after coding it but it may be possible a power cycle is enough.
Option 2 – Edit the firmware image (not sure if this allows one off access or permanent access at this stage????)
To enable this edit a file on the firmware DVD before updating.
- WA\EURPQTO.WSH for Volkswagen or
- WA\EURSKHDD.WSH for Skoda
Find these lines
# Testmode: NOT active SetRegDataHex(0x21,"00",0x0,0x1,0x1)
and replace with
# Testmode: NOT active
SetRegDataHex(0x21,"01",0x0,0x1,0x1)
Check the file length after editing otherwise the firmware update will fail.

Could you make a HowTO edit the DVD-image? …i mean how i can input the edited file back to image before burning the DVD?
You could use a program like Magic ISO (www.magiciso.com) or PowerISO (www.poweriso.com). Both of these you have to pay for but there are freeware ones that I can’ t think of at the moment.

File lenght? Is it same as file size?
How ?
Thank you
Yes same as file size.
Yes i already found out that MagicISO myself. I changed the file extension to .txt and opened the file with notepad, edited it and saved back to original file extension. The file size remained the same… however MagicISO shows that the edited file has no LBA -value, as the all the other files on the same folder have it. Is there any signifigance on that LBA-value and have i done the process right by editing in the notepad?
Thanksalot
The reason for not showing the LBA might be that i did not save the new image yet, so maybe because of that it did not issue LBA for it yet. I´ll try saving as soon as i get home…
Yes that was it…
I editted the file using UltraISO to extract, notepad and then re-inserted. Before editting it was 468,503 and after editting it is 468,193. Was yours exactly the same size after editting?
I have Columbus 1Z0xxxxx with 04Hardware and 1004 firmware… i will try to upgrade to 2664. If i get gateway error 202, i presume downgrade to 1100 wont be possible? …i would have to have the 1004 firmware disk – am i right?
I have exactly the same 478,585,392 bytes bfore and after.
Mark,
I have the same length as you.
Did it work?
Hi Noel,
It upgraded, but I can’t get into the Test Menu.
File length of WA\EURPQTO.WSH or WA\EURSKHDD.WSH should not change after editing, not the file length of ISO image.
I did the upgrade to my columbus 1Z0xxxxxA with the edited file as said above, but did not get the hidden setup… also driving wheel buttons stopped working. Any ideas how to fix these?
What is the big deal with the test menu anyway? It’s not like you have any use for it anyway? Whats good is it for?
It allows you to change the outputs of the unit from high to low, downgrade the firmware and see a lot of other useful information when troubleshooting.
This is how I got to the Test Menu after the upgrade:
I did this from ‘radio’
When the RNS-510 is on (with or without the engine started) press and hold Setup. After a few seconds ‘Radio display services’ will come up on the screen. Keep holding the Setup button and a few seconds later the hallowed ‘Test’ screen will appear.

Nice tip ! All is ok on VW RNS-510 HW04 ! Thx !
how do you determine which version of firmware you currently have? I tried to enter test mode by holding down the setup button…but it didnt go beyond the radio menu?? Also when I put the firmware dvd in it couldnt read it?
