• Skoda units – see instructions below for keeping steering wheel buttons operational
• Seat units – No, the Hardware ID shows up as Skoda but if this is changed to VW the firmware will load and the Hardware ID can be changed back to Seat. There are no hardware definaitions for the Seat on the upgrade media.
• USA Firmware has yet to be released

Download the files and extract them using winrar and you will have a NRG format ISO file to burn. Using Nero burn a DVD+RW or DVD-R (CDR works as well) at a slow speed (4 x is ok for DVD and 16 x for CD). Make sure you use quality media and keep the burn speed down as low as you can to ensure there are no problems during the installation process. Also note that you may need to edit a file before you burn it (see below) if you want to access the setup menu without Vagcom/VCDS.

Warning! This upgrade WILL delete your music and/or maps if you have a firmware version PRIOR to version 1100/1102. Units with a firmware version of 1100/1102 will not have music and maps deleted.

Warning! There is a remote chance of you ‘bricking’ the unit, this is a fraction of a percent but it could happen! The process takes around 60 minutes.’

Warning! There are a small number of users where the RNS 510 does not know where it is after it’s been powered on, details of the previous location are kept in the unit but at this stage there is no pattern to this problem.

Warning! Users with cars MY07 and earlier may experience power drain issues after the upgrade. See the post “Upgrading 2nd generation radios (RCD 300, RCD 500) to 3rd generation (RCD 210, RCD 310, RNS 310, RCD 510) power drain issue” for more details.

Warning! Users with the Skoda UHV bluetooth 1Z0 035 729 B (1Z0035729B) may want to delay upgrading the firmware, there is an issue with the RNS 510 no longer displaying the phone book and/or the call details but signal strength etc are visible for some phones. My HTC Diamond for example worked fine before the update but only partially afterwards however my Iphone 3G worked fine before and after. This is not a problem with the 1Z0 035 729 D (1Z0035729D) Skoda UHV bluetooth kit. The MFD functions as per normal with phone book and last calls listed correctly.

Note! Skoda owners (thanks to Ted)

1. Extract files PQTABLE and SKTABLE from image (use magiciso or ultraiso). Files can be found from path: \VUCI\B101\RNSMIDEC\PROG
2. Switch the filenames by just renaming SKTABLE to PQTABLE and vice versa
3. Overwrite the renamed files back to image and save the image. Burn this image to DVD or CD.
4. Load or reload the Firmware to your RNS-510 using the steps below.
5. Voilá… buttons are back!

Note! - Test/Setup Mode. The firmware can allow access to enter test/setup mode without Vagcom/VCDS access see Accessing the Setup Menu on the RNS 510 head units with firmware later than 1100. The procedure for entering the test/setup mode for those with Vagcom/VCDS is slightly different as well. To enter the test/setup mode when the RNS 510 is operating press and hold the setup button, keep holding it when the radio menu appears and shortly after the test menu appears . I had to reboot my unit after coding it but it may be possible a power cycle is enough.

Note! - Failure (Gateway Error 202) - You can downgrade back to 1100 by inserting the 1100 firmware and rebooting the RNS 510 (Setup + eject + info).

Steps to load firmware

1. Unlock and/or open the car
2. Do not start the car
3. Turn the RNS 510 on and insert the firmware CD/DVD into the drive

Today I upgraded firmware of my RNS-510. At the begining RNS is gave an error screen after inserted the DVD which is about 24 hours time setting. After that I changed my time settings to 12 hour am/pm mode however update didn’t work again. So we had to deinstall RNS-510 from car and make it work on a table with 14Volt :D Anyway at least after 1 hour upgrade operation is completed successfuly.

Thanks to all who published the firmware.

este firmware vale para el rns 510 de seat???

I have a 2009 Skoda Octavia Buss Ed. with columbus.
Installing and following PQTABLE and SKTABLE switch instructions worked, but the volume knob on the steering wheel wasn’t functioning (!)

Today I will install original Firmware (no switch) to see if this works.

• Karel

Do you have any news? I have the same problem with Superb 2009. How can I get the original FW? Thanks

• Karel

Problem solved.

If you have a newer car (Superb II, Octavia 2009, etc.) you don’t need to switch the files SKTABLES and PQTABLES. This is necessary for older Octavias.

It works perfectly after flashing with the untouched FW.

Hello,
I have successfully upgraded my Touareg (05/2008) RNS510 without any errors. But after I update to FW 2660 i have NO SOUND. Some Ideas?

• Derv

Upgraded but the clock doesn’t appear on screen when the unit is turned off. I have enabled it in system options and it does appear briefly (0.5 seconds) when I press the power on button. Anyone any ideas?

• JHM

Update @ post 8th sep – 4:02 pm
Original firmware was only solution to get volume from the steering wheel working.
No problems with original firmware with bluetooth / phone whatsoever.

• dutch

is this firmware suitable for the dutch language?

Hey Guys,

Donwloaded the rar’s, unzipped them succesfully and have a file called: cd_4.754.301_C_EU_9.242_t300_BMPQSBT5PQT5TOTO_C3C4AC5CC6.nrg
The image is 457 MB and (479.748.096 byte)
It does not seem to be a valid archive, I can’t burn or open the image.
Could you be so kind and tell me how and with what settings you have burned the image to cd.
Thanks!

• Lorenzo2mars

Hi, sorry for my english but I’m french :)
I’ve got a serious problem with my rns since I installed the latest firmware on it :
I can’t install MP3 anymore on the HDD or delete music already installed on the HDD. It seems that in fact I can’t access to the 18GB partition. Seems to be locked !!! Very embarassing….
Other 12GB partition works fine, I’ve installed GPS V5 on it without any problem.

Any idea ? One day on internet without any solution :(

Regards,
Lorenzo

• Ilker

I have upgraded my RNS 510 too. At the begining I saw the same errors told here, but after fourth try it was succesfully upgraded. But I have a problem. After the upgrade I can open just the driver door, other three doors still locked. After pressing the key second time other doors open. I could’t understand why? I like this function but trying to learn how can I solve this problem.

• Today I upgraded RNS510 with D type VW bluetooth module to VW Golf GTI Mk6. Upgraded to C type software (2660)on headunit. Phone works through the MFD display, but phone does not work through the radio’s display. Audio volume controls work on the steering wheel but the scan / skip buttons are inoperative. Can you shed any light on thsi problem.

• Noddie

Hi DaveynoDollard,
I have silmilar gear to you.
TDI MK6
I retro fitted D BT MODULE and RNS 510.
BT was in first a couple of months ago so I had to re-wire mic in and out with install of RNS Head unit.
Everything is now working well.

What I found then was I had to via VAGCOM dis-able voice on the BT and enable it on the Head Unit.

Change the option via VAGCOM in the Steering Wheel module to get all the buttons operating.

This may or not help depending what you had factory installed

• Atty

Hi Noddie,
I am soon to retro-fit a ‘D’ BT MODULE and RNS 510 (fw2660) to my Skoda Octavia II

Can you tell me if you are able to use the voice dialling function of the BT with the set up you have?

• Maverick

Yes you can however you will have a “problem” in that the button on the steering wheel will pull up the bluetooth voice control system and to use the voice control on the RNS 510 you have to press the button next to the DVD slot (on the far right hand side).

• Noddie

Atty,
When I first installed. I could only get voice commands via I button on the RNS510.
The Voice command button on the steering wheel, just muted everything, the same as before I installed the BT or the 510.
I activated the VC button on the steering wheel but it would only activate VC of the BT unit.
I then turned voice off on the BT unit.
I now have voice command via the appropriate steering wheel button for all functions including voice dialling.
The only thing I haven’t figured out is no voice command supported for ,Address’ input in the navigation.

• Fastmp

Just did a firmware and maps update this morning. Everything is fine now but had to try 3 different media for it to work but I think I found the trick. When I inserted the maps cd/dvd it didn’t want to recognise it. So I switched it off and then inserted the cd while off, it then recognised it. The same went for the firmware update. With the car off and the unit on the firmware disk would not read. With the car off and the unit off then inserting the disk to switch the unit on worked for me.
Don’t know if this is scientific but it worked.

Oh and I can also confirm the SDHC works with HW03.

• trolrolo

After upgrade to 2662 from 1100 (Touareg 03.2009) unit 7L6035680C my compass is not working – it always shows North (0 degress) direction, and on the navigation, i’m always offroad. My position is ok and is changing when the car is moving. I have also a problem when I press button to enable automatic zoom (nothing happend), automatic zoom looks like not working.

• McDeanski

I am an Skoda Octavia driver (08-2009) with a brand new Columbus (HW11). I have just upgrade my Columbus to firmware 2664 and my compass is also not working. It always shows North (0 degrees) direction and my position is in a location in Germany (somewhere around Nürnberg) and when i am driving it stays dat way. With the new GPS view i have no connections to satellites, it says 0/0, no elevation. Before it worked well with the older 1100 firmware. Is there somewhere a download link to the older firmware?

• Taffy

I extracted the rar files to nrg files then burned them to a verbatem dvd but when the disk is put in the head unit it just sits there and does nothing, what am I doing wrong please. Regards. Taffy

• Maverick

Have you tried turning the unit off and back on again? Or rebooting? You may want to check the burn speed. And you did burn them using Nero by choosing the burn image option and not just burning the .nrg file to the DVD?

• JUL

Well done ! I’ve successfully updated my VW RNS-510 HW04 ! All is ok, thank you !

• Taffy

Thanks Maverick. I think you are right I only have a trial copt of Nero and it it does not have “burn image” only “burn” so i think that is what is wrong. I have looked on the web and can’t find a full version of Nero without paying a lot….Regards Taffy

If you get the Gateway 202 error then you likely have a stolen unit. The stolen units get their security code from the EEPROM. The sellers do some soldering to extract the code from the EEPROM. There is a guy in Poland that can fix it though.

• Rob

I followed the above…i keep getting an error 010306 that the software was unable to load. Any ideas?

• antonio

nn sorry can not open the rar file asks me for a password anyone know it? thanks

• Atlantis

Ilker,
This is called single door lock. You press the unlock once to open the driver’s door and twice for the rest and boot lid. This an option you can change via the menu on dash panel insert. That if you have MFD plus. If not, you can change that with Vag.com.

• Atlantis

rv65 are you sure? I tried to upgrade to 1100 and 2660 but every time was a Gateway 202 error. I must have tried it 20 times or more. Always the same. Do you have any more info on that?

• Galagher

Hi, sorry to bother you. But there is one thing I don´t understand: Do I need all 4 files? And when I need all of them how can I combine them on one disc?
Will be happy if someome can bring some colour into this.

Thanks

• Orestis

Yes you need all files (4). After the downloading choose all of them and with right click select extract files to…. (the folder you want to extract them). You must then write the password (octaviars20tdi) and press ok. You will a message during the extraction where you must select the choice ‘Yes to all’. When the extraction complete you will have one file which have to be burned with nero or similar program.

• Atlantis

Is it possible to edit the firmware to skip the Gateway update? I played with the files and the scripts a little bit but everytime the disks were non functioning. Not really odd since I don’t have much of a programming background. I’m sure though that there are people in here that have the nessasary knowlage to attempt such thing. After many many many many attepts with no success, I’m starting to look for possible targets to throw my RNS at. I believe one of them will get hit pretty soon.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

• Orestis

Hi everyone,

I have a Skoda Octavia II (2008) and I updated my Columbus to firmware version 2664 but I don’t see the voice control option in setup menu. The mic button plays the same role before the update (last navigation announcement). Do I have to access the CANBUS in order to activate this feature?

Regards Orestis

• ZeeDD

Yes, you need to use VCDS (VAGCOM) to activate voice control and you also need to put a microphone on your RNS510 to be able to use that feature.

ZeeDD.

• ZeeDD

Hi all,

I’ve just updated my RNS510-B HW03 version from v900 to v2660 firmware. My CAN gateway is a “R” version. I will check the fan shutoff in a few minutes juste to be shure that my battery will not drain.

Another precision: My MP3 and navigation maps have not been erased.

ZeeDD.

• revil

error gateway 502……any help?????????

• Orestis

Hi everyone,

Although I have updated my Columbus (for Skoda Octavia II) I decided to send an e-mail in Skoda factory to ask some CD for firmware update in order to activate the voice control as I had heard. They said that my Columbus can’t be updated since it was produced the early 2008. The units that can be updated are from calendar week production 45/2009. Despite that fact I updated my Columbus without any problem during the procedure. The only features that are not working are “Clock display if RNS 510 swtiched off” and “Voice control”. But voice control may be activated via CANBUS. I will keep you inform when I try some coding. Do you have any comments about that?

Regards Orestis

• Jossie

I would like to upgrade my ‘A’ unit (1T0035680A), HW04 and SW 1020 to the latest firmware. Should I first upgrade to SW 1100 to ‘change’ it into a ‘B’ unit? Or can I upgrade directly to the 2660 version? What version will I have (2660, 2662, 2664, 2666, 2668) and what are the diffences?

Do I have to change the WA\EURPQTO.WSH also for the 1100 version? I can access the test menu in my 1020 version…

In the steps to follow, they say not to start the car and just turn on the RNS510 (so directly on the battery, without key). Proces takes about 60 minutes. Will the RNS not go in OFF mode after a while (aprox 30 min) to save battery life (which it does when I have the RNS ON while washing my car)?

Will I still be able to play DVD’s while the car is in motion (using the ‘i’ key followed by ‘TONE’)?

Thx in advance for your help !!

• Orestis

I have upgrated my Columbus directly to version 2664. No other version is needed first since mine is working perfect. The only feature that is not working after the upgrade is voice control. But this function will be activated after some coding via CANBUS. I haven’t done the coding yet but many people says that coding is needed (and of course a microphone connected to the unit). I think that you can play DVD while the car is in motion only if you have activated the feature of voice control via CANBUS. So after that the combination of ‘i’ key followed by ‘TONE’ plays DVD in motion. The truth is that I didn’t change the file EURPQTO.WSH and now I can’t access the test menu. But you can change the coding later via CANBUS in order to have access to that menu (as I have heard). During the upgrade the unit does not go in off mode and also it makes some resets automatically. The new features are those discribed on top of the page. Finally the version that you would have I think depends on the car that you have. Mine is Skoda Octavia II.

Good luck!
Orestis

• Jossie

Can somebody else confirm that I can update my A unit with SW 1020 (see 2 posts above) directly to the 2660 version without having to update before to 1100 version (in order to make it a B unit)?

Orestis, it’s not that i don’t believe you, but found on another forum that somebody with a SW 1020 version (A unit) first had to update to the 1100 version before succesfully upgrade to the newest firmware. When he went the first time directly for the newest firmware, it failed.

I want to give it a try in 2 days, so i want to be sure…

My passat is from june 2008, so i guess i’ll don’t have a problem with the battery drainage?

Thx in advance

• Bobby

Can i update my RNS 510(1Z0035680A) SW-1004 with this firmware? thx in advance

• kokaland

hello, i’ve update this version 2664 to my 3T0 skoda Columbus RNS.
problem: the gateway update shows 100% bei time remaining 1min.
but then the cd will dropped out an then comes nothing
?
how long must i wait?

please help

greetings

dk

• Nick

Oke, upgraded to the new firmware as well. Though i brick my unit but i think we have found a 99% proof way to unbrick your RNS510 in case of a gateway error. I just have 1 question.

On the picture below, can somebody please explain to me how to use the bluetooth function (if even possible)

Thanks in advance

• Jossie

Update my A unit without any problems. First I went from the 1020 version to the 1100 version. Then I had a B unit and lost all HD data (mp3 and nav data). Thereafer updated to 2660 version. All went perfect from the first time. Now I have C unit and i was surprised to have recovered all my personal settings including my saved destinations.

Both updates took about 53 minutes.

All works perfect, only the climatronic function doesn’t show up. How is the function working for those who have the new climatronic in their car. If you turn on the temperature wheel, the visual image shows up? Or how do you make changes? I think my climatronic (version 2008) doesn’t differ alot from the newest version (except for the visual image on the RNS screen). The buttons look the same…

And a last question. If i remember well, in the setup menu, you will find a tab HARDDISK. There I find: Temperature (control): degraded. What does that mean? There is also another tab Temperature where you will find multiple temperature readings. All those are working and looking fine to me (highest was the first one = 56°C).

Thx anyway for your help. Keep up the good work !!
